Happiness is in the Process not Outcome

I am fascinated by how people become great at what they do. Turns out the greats do the thing they are great at over and over again. If you want to do 100 pushups then start today and do as many as you can until failure - you might hit 15-20. Then tomorrow do this again but add 1 pushup. You will hit 100 pushups in a row in about 60 days.

Routine is the mother of success. Being insanely disciplined and consistent is how we evolve. We call this “The Work”. As an artist I have a set schedule of painting from 10am to 5pm everyday. I don’t veer from this and in fact there are many days I do NOT want to work. Its confronting - I have days I am tired, uninspired, wanting to do anything but sit down and paint. Everyone has this feeling. But these are the moments where we let our mind know we are in charge and we roll up our sleeves and get to work. Your daily process and practice are all that matter. The outcomes are a byproduct of your process. You can’t control outcomes, but you can control process.

I had a high school civics teacher who would say “A sign of maturity is doing the thing you have to do when you don’t want to do it” - its stuck with me all these years and when I come up against resistance I know I have to take action. This is why so many people are cold plunging and taking control of their morning routines - its not about the physical benefits of the cold - its the mental control and training of the mind. Doing hard things allows you to do harder things.

If you are not where you want to be, then I guarantee its because you’re not as disciplined with your life as you know you should be. You have agency at any moment to decide to change. That enough is enough. You can drop your story right now and make a new one. It takes action and it will be uncomfortable, but before you know it your capacity will increase and what once felt impossible becomes easy.

The greatest drug on earth is the warm blanket of complacency and ease. You will find a greater sense of happiness and deep esteem when you push yourself out of your comfort zone.

I love you. BTW if you want to a painting get in touch 🙂
